1. Explain the principle of operation and standardisation of potentiometer.
2. Draw the circuit diagram of DC Crompton’s potentiometer and explain its working.

4. Write about Drysdale phase shifting transformer.
5. A single range potentiometer has a 18 steps dial switch where each step represents 0.1V ,
the dial resistors are 10 ohms. The slide wire of the potentiometer is circular and has 11
turns and a resistance of 11 ohms each. The slide wire has 100 division and interpolation can
be done to one fourth of a division. The working battery has a voltage of 6 volts and
negligible internal resistance.

Sub: Power Semiconductor Drives
1) Discuss briefly the various methods of controlling the speed of the 3-phase induction motor from        stator side using solid state converters.
2) A 3 phase, 4 pole, 50hz induction motor has rotor resistance of  0.2Ώ and stand still reactance of         0.1Ώ. at full load it operates at slip of 4%. If the voltage is reduced to 50% at what speed will the
    motor operates with full load torque applied.
3) Derive the torque expression of 3 phase induction motor and draw the torque speed characteristics     of polyphase induction motor. also explain the following operating regions (1) motor region  (2)         generating region      (3) breaking region
4) For stator voltage control scheme of 3-phase induction motor  discuss about speed range,                     regeneration, harmonics, torque –pulsating, power factor, cost, efficiency and applications.
5) Explain merits and demerits of stator voltage control of induction
    motor.
6)  Explain about four quadrant ac voltage controller briefly.

The voltage magnitude at bus 2 is tobe maintained at 1.03 PU The max and min reactive power limits of generator at bus 2 are 35 and 0MVAR. With bus1 as slack bus obtain voltage at bus 3 using G-S method after 1 st iteration.(assuming base MVA=50).
