Unit I
1. Explain the working of thermal power station with a neat diagram.
2. With a neat schematic diagram explain the working of a gas turbine power plant.
3. Explain the function of the following in thermal power plant and explain the
Principle of operation of each:
     i. Economiser       ii. Electrostatic precipitator      iii. Condenser
   iv. Superheater    v. Cooling tower    
4.      Explain clearly the various processes that can take place, when a neutron  collides with a heavy atom. Describe the construction and uses of nuclear reactor core          
Unit II
  1.      Draw the single line diagram of radial primary feeder and mention the factors
That influences the selection of primary feeder  .
2.       A D.C two wire distributors are fed at F1 and F2 at 220 V and 225 V respectively. The total length of the distributor is 250 m. The loads tapped o_ from fed end F1 are Load in ampere: 20 40 25 35   , Distance in meter: 50 75 100 200 The resistance per km of one conductor is 0.3 ohm. Determine the current in various sections of the distributor and the voltage at the point of minimum potential
3. Draw a single line diagram showing a typical distribution system and explain in detail.
4.  In a 3-phase 4-wire distribution system with 240 volts between lines and neutral there is a balanced motor load of 250 kW at power factor 0.8 lamp loads connected  between respective lines and neutral absorb 25 kW, 75 kW and 100kW. Calculate:
(a) the current in each line       (b) the current in neutral wire of the feeder

Unit IV
1.       A load of 10,000KW at a power factor of 0.8 lagging is supplied by a 3 phase line whose line voltage has to be maintained at 33KV at each end. If the line resistance and reactance per phase are 5ohm and 10ohm respectively, Calculate the capacity of the synchronous condenser to be installed for the purpose. Comment on the result
2.       Derive an expression for the most economical value of power factor which may be attained by the Consumer.                                                                                                        
3. Discuss the synchronous condenser method of voltage control for a transmission line.
4. Write the comparison between series and shunt capacitor used in voltage control?
